Day Activities

4WD beach trips: An hour’s drive north is Double Island Point and Rainbow Beach, which offers the perfect surfing conditions. Stop in along the way to explore the coloured sands of Red Canyon, Freshwater and the Double Point Lighthouse and its headland.

Waking up to sounds of the waves crashing on the shore and the many birds starting their day is the most wonderful experience. For bird watching enthusiasts, it’s an opportunity to observe a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. From the Sea Eagles, Brahminy Kites and Osprey to kookaburras, honey-eaters, wagtails, currawongs and owls, to name just a few.

For the keen angler, the beach offers a variety of fish, the most common being whiting, flathead, bream and dart. Fishing off the beach is a simple and relaxing way to spend the day. All you need is a rod, some bait and patience. For those who prefer to collect their own bait, pippies and worms can be found along the shore.

In addition to bird watching, nature trails and fishing, the beach and national park offer plenty of other activities. Take a walk along the shoreline and collect shells, or simply relax on the sand and soak up the sun. Hiking trails through the National Park to the top of Mt Seawah, provide breathtaking views of the coastline and surrounding bushland. For those wanting to explore the ocean, surfing, paddleboarding and kayaking are popular activities, also.
